Additional Opportunity to Extend Your Permit Expiration Dates: Winter Weather, Droughts, Wildfire Risks, New World Screwworm, and Pasture Mealybug

Some property owners, developers, construction industry professionals, and other building permit- and authorization-holders may be eligible for extensions to preserve their development and construction rights. A Florida law allows certain qualifying permits and authorizations to be extended beyond their current expiration dates once the Governor issues a state of emergency stemming from natural causes. Governor DeSantis declared a 60-day state of emergency for all Florida counties in light of impacts of winter weather, droughts, and wildfire risks, on February 9, 2026 (Executive Order No. 26-33) and extended it further pursuant to Executive Order Nos. 26-80, 26-114, 26-117 (also adding the presence of New World Screwworm to the conditions underlying the emergency), 26-163, and 26-191 (also adding the presence of the pasture mealybug to the conditions underlying the emergency).
